USCIS has released its Q1 2019 EB-5 petition data for the Form I-526 and I-829. The data shows slower processing at the Investor Program Office (IPO).
Form I-526 Immigrant Petition for Alien Entrepreneur had very few petitions approved this quarter. Despite that, the pending applications still dropped by a few hundred petitions, which is good, but still extremely slow.
Form I-829 Petition by Entrepreneurs to Remove Conditions on Permanent Resident Status also saw a drop in the number of petitions approved this quarter and, unfortunately, also saw an increase of about 500 petitions that are now pending.
The Investor Program Office either needs more staff to help process EB-5 petitions or they need to better streamline their process. If the processing continues to slow down the backlog for EB-5 will grow deeper, which in turn, will turn potential investors off from investing in the program. These investors will look to other countries’ visa opportunities.
